Meta continues to gain grown with its Threads platform, with the app now boasting more than 350 million monthly active users.
Threads is Meta’s latest social media platform, an effort by the company to take advantage of user dissatisfaction with X (formerly Twitter). The app has quickly gained ground, surpassing 200 million users in mid-2024, growing to 320 million users as Q4 2024.
According to TechCrunch, Meta has gained another 30 million users in Q1 2025, with Threads now surpassing 350 million monthly users.
Interestingly, while 350 million is an impressive number—especially for one of the newest social media platforms—it’s still barely more than half of X’s user base. X CEO Linda Yaccarino recently revealed that X has nearly 600 million monthly active users.
What’s more, it seems X has managed to stem the user losses it experienced in the wake of Musk’s purchase of the platform. According to Digiday, X reported 586 million monthly users in January, and 570 million in September 2024. While the growth trend is certainly small, it is growth nonetheless.
Given the much faster rate at which Threads is adding users, as well as Threads’ integration with the rest of Meta’s platforms, it’s likely only a matter of time until Threads finally surpasses X.
